Workshop Track IV: Wednesday July 28th, 9:30 AM -- 11:30 AM

The Art of Networking
Gaining funding and other valuable resources for a non-profit organization can sometimes depend on "who you know" as well as "what you know." How well do you represent your organization in the marketplace when you are in search of funds and other resources? You probably do pretty well, but when it comes to gaining sponsors and funding for your community projects, one can always do better. In these instances, image may not be everything, but it is certainly a BIG piece of the pie. Wouldn't it be nice to know how to improve upon your current marketing and networking abilities to get what you need (and want) to expand your reach into your community? This workshop will put you "in the know."

From the Grant Reviewer's Perspective Interested in learning more about grant writing? Looking for a grant writing refresher course? Seeking to get a behind the scenes look at what goes on in a grant review? Found yourself in a grant writing slump? Then prepare to be enlightened by individuals who actually review grant proposals in the private, public and government sectors. This workshop looks at the grant and proposal writing process from the grant reviewer's perspective to provide practical techniques and helpful hints in your quest to become a successful grant writer.

Help Wanted
"No man is an island." People with a heart for the community are needed to successfully organize and implement most outreach programs. So where do I find community service-centered people? What kinds of resources are out there to help me find community service-minded people? How do I organize them and keep them motivated? What tips or pointers should I know to be sure that I have engaged the right person for the job? This workshop will provide some insight into the pros and cons of having three different types of support personnel on staff: the volunteer, the intern, and the business consultant.

Underwriting, Capital Campaigns & Endowments: How To
Seeking underwriters for your community events? Ever wonder how private foundations and large non-profits are able to meet their funding goals on a consistent basis? Thinking about starting a capital campaign for your non-profit? Looking for well-to-do philanthropists to donate to your community cause? Then this workshop can help provide some of the "how-to" answers you're looking for.

The Non-Profit Real Estate Game
Every non-profit needs a place to call home. Finding the right amount of land, workspace, living space or office space to meet the non-profit's need can be a challenge. This challenge can increase exponentially as the non-profit grows and extends its reach into the community. This workshop will disucss what you should know when considering commercial property purchase and land acquisition, the advantages and disadvantages of leasing vs. buying real estate, and the basic concepts surrounding commercial mortgages and lease contracts.
